  11.  AB    In Italy the diffusion of HIV infection is particularly sustained by
  12.        drug-abusers (DA) (66.1% of the total AIDS cases). The aim of this study
  13.        is to evaluate the annual trend in HIV-test applications in the period
  14.        from 1985 to 1993 of 13,272 subjects who underwent the test because they
  15.        were DA and to evaluate the percentage of seropositive DAs subdivided
  16.        according to sex. The results are reported in the table below. TABULAR
  17.        DATA, SEE ABSTRACT VOLUME. The results show a decrease in HIV-test
  18.        applications in DAs. For the percentage of seropositivity, there is a
  19.        significant decrease in men (from 48.9% in 1985 to 20.2% in 1993) whilst
  20.        in women there is an alternating trend (60% in '85, 47.5% in '90, 20.2%
  21.        in '93). Further observations will be necessary in order to confirm this
  22.        last finding.
